We meet at the ASM office, which is located within Paddy Pallin 166 Katoomba Street, Katoomba. From Katoomba railway station, go down Katoomba Street and you will find the ASM office located on the left side at the bottom of the hill.
Participants should plan to arrive at the ASM office around 15 minutes prior to the nominated meeting time. If you are running late please make every effort to call our office as early as possible.
All technical abseiling and canyoning equipment is provided by ASM. ASM will supply you with all the specialist gear you will require to participate in the canyoning tour, this equipment will include wetsuits, dry-bags, canyon packs, harnesses, helmets and ropes etc. If you have your own specialist equipment such as harnesses and wetsuits and wish to use them then feel free to bring it them along.
Please bring or wear the following clothing; shorts, long pants, warm sweater or fleece jacket, T-shirt, sun hat, rain jacket. ASM can loan you some items of suitable canyoning clothing if you do not have it, however participants should try to supply their own.
You should wear running shoes, joggers, sandshoes (shoes that can get wet) for these activities. A spare pair of dry shoes for the road trip home. ASM will loan you suitable canyoning footwear if you do not have it, however participants should try to supply their own.
A small daypack, 2 litres of water, sun-cream, lightweight towel, camera (optional).
Blue Mountains Canyons are easily some of the most photogenic natural wonders on Earth, so naturally most people are very keen to take photographs when in the canyons. However a few important points are worth noting; Most canyons are VERY WET places and so special precautions are required when using camera equipment in the canyons. ASM supply participants with purpose made dry bags to help keep general equipment, clothing and food dry. These dry bags should not to be relied upon to keep your camera gear safe from water.
While your guide will readily assist you to obtain those “once in a lifetime” shots, the guide is not responsible for the safety of your camera equipment. We recommend the following; disposable cameras in double plastic bags, waterproof disposable cameras (you can purchase these at the ASM Office), waterproof dive cameras (lightweight ones), conventional cameras in purpose made waterproof boxes or bags and a small hand towel to dry your hands before use.
Sometimes prolonged wet weather may require postponing this trip but remember the weather in the mountains can be very different to that in Sydney. If you have any concerns about the day, feel free to ring our office on (02) 4782 2014.
