International Expeditions

Welcome to the exciting world of High Altitude Mountaineering! Many years ago ASM ran the first multi-peak guided Himalayan expedition, it went on to become one of the most successful, professionally guided expeditions of all time. We were one of the global originators of the multi-peak, guided expedition concept and have continued to run these trips through to the present day. During this time ASM have developed an enviable reputation for offering some of the most innovative and rewarding guided mountaineering expeditions ever. In carrying on this tradition we look forward to providing you with another exciting High Altitude Expedition in 2007.

By securing your place on an ASM Mountaineering Expedition you’ll have taken the first step on what will surely prove to be the mountaineering adventure of a lifetime!

HIMALAYAN THREE PEAKS EXPEDITION 2007
| Dates & Fees | Itinerary |

This expedition will see us climbing in the Khumbu / Everest Region of Nepal. Our objectives are LOBUJE EAST (6119MTS), POKALDE (5806MTS) and ISLAND PEAK / IMJA TSE (6189MTS). These outstanding mountains will offer challenging, but attainable climbing objectives and are an ideal combination for first time expeditioners.

Officially the three mountains we plan to attempt are classified as “Trekking Peaks” however they are still regarded as being challenging and sometimes very demanding climbs. This expedition is not a tour for armchair trekkers!

The expedition will commence with two days of sightseeing and mountaineering preparations in Kathmandu. At the conclusion of our stay in Kathmandu we will board a helicopter for the short flight to Lukla (2850mts). We will stay at Lukla for a day of acclimatisation and then commence the walk in to our first Basecamp the following morning.

Our mode of travel will be based both on the “tea house” style of trekking where the expedition group is free to wander at it’s leisure between the numerous Sherpa villages which dot the route as well as being a more traditionally serviced trip. The expedition will pause at these village centres for meals and overnight rests while transiting to and from various mountain Basecamps and peaks.

From Namche Bazaar (3440mts) via Thyangboche (3867mts) and Pheriche (4243mts) the climbing group will make their way to Lobuje East Basecamp (4900mts) to attempt Lobuje East (6119mts). We will begin the climbing with a period of acclimatisation and mountaineering skills instruction and revision and then afterwards commence to carry our loads to establish high camps on the mountain. Three days will be allowed for summit attempts on Lobuje East.

After returning to Lobuje Village for a rest day and optional trek up to Everest Basecamp the team will prepare for the Pokalde climb. To reach Pokalde Basecamp (5300mts) will require a crossing of the Kongma La Pass (5535mts). A relatively straightforward climb to the Pokalde Summit will follow a rest day at Pokalde Basecamp.

From Pokalde Basecamp the expedition will then proceed through the valley to Imja Tse Basecamp (5087mts), from which the climbers the following day will climb to 5500mts and establish a high camp. This camp will be the launching point for the summit climbs on Imja Tse. As with the previous climbs we will allow several days for summit attempts. This will afford a margin for bad weather or similar delays and thus provide the optimum chance for a successful summit bid.

From the summits of all the peaks you will have unhindered, panoramic views of the many eight thousand metre giants that abound in this mountainous region.

The expedition is aimed at participants with previous basic mountaineering and or trekking experience. For participants with little experience a mountaineering skills seminar will be conducted during the early stages of the expedition. The climbs will involve snow / ice climbing and rock scrambling of moderate difficulty and require glacier travelling skills to approach them.
